The seventh edition of the biennial Skyrunning World Championships will be held in Italy on Sept. 9-11, 2022. The host venue will be Ossola, in Italy’s Piedmont, a region situated to the north of Lago Maggiore, close to the Swiss border. The area, set in an amphitheater surrounded by snow-covered fourthousenders, is an ideal location for summer and winter sports. The candidacy proposed three events in the ski area of San Domenico, in the Bognanco Valley and in the Formazza Valley, of which the hub will be the main town of the area, Domodossola, where the teams will be accommodated. The organizers expect participants from 30 countries. The three main disciplines contested in the championships include Vertical, Sky and Skyultra. The first World Skyrunning Championships were held in Cervinia, Italy, in 1998. The country then had to wait twelve years until their return to the Dolomites in 2010, and now another twelve years until next year’s event.
