On Oct. 12, leading fashion and sports brands, researchers, innovators and sustainability experts from the Swedish and international textile industry are going to gather for a more sustainable development. This year’s current topic is SUPPLY CHAIN: GE.
This fifth edition of the NEXT TEXTILE conference will take place at the Textile Fashion Center in Borås and online, bringing together hundreds of participants;
Among this year’s speakers are Charles Ross from the Royal College of Art in London, Elaine Gardiner, head of sustainability at Haglöfs, Niklas Hedin, CEO and founder of the logistics IT company Centiro with companies such as Nike, Adidas and Zalando on his customer list.

A new international textile award called FABRIC OF LIFE will also be launched as part of the conference. The award will celebrate the very best in textile design, innovation and sustainability. It has been instituted by Swedish textile entrepreneur Paul Frankenius, as a tribute to Borås’ textile heritage and significance for the city of Borås, which this year celebrates its 400th anniversary.
“I look forward to giving back to an industry that has meant so much to me and my hope is that this award can help to make a difference in the future,” says Paul Frankenius. “There’s some extraordinary talent and game-changers in all areas of textile development, from up-and-coming designers to larger manufacturers. FABRIC OF LIFE has been launched to reward and encourage those forerunners in the textile industry.”
An international jury will choose three winners from design, innovation and sustainability categories, who will each receive a €10,000 prize and a unique sculpture by ceramist Eva Hild. The jury consists of Babba Rivera, Ceremonia; Linus Karlsson, global chief creative IKEA; Haysun Hahn, international trend guru; Hanna Wittrock, The Swedish School of Textiles, Borås, and Charles Ross, Royal College of Art London. “My long-term ambition is to establish FABRIC OF LIFE award as the Oscars of the textile industry and celebrate on an annual basis for many years to come,” Paul Frankenius added. The first FABRIC OF LIFE award winners, recognized for their valuable contribution to design, innovation and sustainability, will be announced after the NEXT TEXTILE conference on Oct. 12.
