ABC-Mart, which describes itself as Japan's leading footwear retailer, has agreed to entirely take over LaCrosse Footwear, the U.S. outdoor and work footwear company, for $20 per share in cash, amounting to a purchase price of $138 million. The two parties said that the deal would enable ABC-Mart to benefit from LaCrosse's strength in production, which includes a manufacturing plant in Oregon, while the Japanese footwear retailer and distributor would support the expansion of the LaCrosse and Danner brands in Asia (more in The Outdoor Industry Compass).
