Accell has announced the appointment of Ton Anbeek as the group's new chief executive and chairman of the board. The decision follows the resignation in April of René Takens, the previous chief executive and chairman of the board. Takens had been at the helm for 18 years. Under his leadership, the company grew especially in the segment of electric bicycles, which now accounts for more than 40 percent of the group's total turnover. As of Nov. 1, 2017, Accell's board of directors consists of four members: Ton Anbeek as chief executive, Hielke Sybesma as chief financial officer, Jeroen Snijders Blok as chief operating officer, and Jeroen Both as chief supply chain officer.
Anbeek, 55, started his professional career in 1987 at Unilever, where he worked at various operating companies, both in the Netherlands and abroad. His positions included global marketing director for all Unilever fabric softener brands and managing director of Unilever Mahgreb, which covered Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania. In early 2007, he joined Koninklijke Auping in Deventer, Netherlands as the company's general director. In 2010, he was appointed chief executive of Beter Bed Holding.
Meanwhile, Aad Kuiper has stepped down as member of Accell's supervisory board, with immediate effect, and the company has launched a selection procedure for his replacement. Until then, Accell's supervisory board will include Ab Pasman as chairman, Jan van der Belt as vice-president and Peter Ernsting.
