Accell North America's chief executive, Chris Speyer, is leaving the company to join Recreational Equipment (REI) as vice president of private brands. He will take on his new role at REI on Oct. 30. Speyer has spent 11 and a half years in leadership positions within Accell North America, which is the parent company of Raleigh, Diamondback and Redline. He began his career in 2006 with Raleigh America, which was later sold to Accell Group in May 2012. He has held various roles including vice-president of marketing and product for Raleigh, chief operating officer and most recently chief executive, a role which he took on in June 2014. Prior to joining Railegh, he managed ski and bike purchasing for the Forzani Group for ten years, and then worked for two years at Worldwide Cycle, the distributor of Iron Horse and other brands. His successor is yet to be named. At REI, he will oversee all private label development. Speyer is also a board adviser and former president of the Bicycle Product Suppliers Association and board member of PeopleForBikes.
