Adidas has announced its participation in Speedfactory, a program initiated by the German government to find innovative ways of manufacturing products over the next ten to 15 years, for which 120 companies had applied. Adidas will lead one out of 20 consortia operating in different fields, setting the targets for research projects in which it will cooperate together with its own global information technology and innovation team. The focus will be on energy savings, sustainability and flexible production infrastructures for the production of highly individualized products. The partners in the Adidas project are Johnson Controls, a leading supplier of digital control systems for the automotive industry; KSL Keilmann, an expert in developing individual robotic assembly solutions; Fortiss, an institute associated with the Technical University of Munich that will facilitate R&D transfers in software-intensive systems and services; and ITA RWTH, a textile technology institute of the University of Aachen.
