Adidas has appointed Dirk Schönberger as creative director of the Adidas Sport Style Division, to provide the creative impetus for Y-3, Adidas Originals, Adidas SLVR, Porsche Design Sport and Neo. The latter is the new name given to Style Essentials, a more affordable version of Adidas Originals. Schönberger is a closely-watched German designer, who worked until January as creative director of Joop in Hamburg. He previously worked at Dirk Bikkembergs in Antwerp and launched his own ranges of men’s and women’s wear, both of which disappeared. The name might ring a bell with rock enthusiasts, since Schönberger designed clothes for Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, as well as U2. The creative management of the Adidas brand had been split among several designers since Michael Michalsky left the company in 2006. For the Adidas Sport Performance segment, it remains divided among several designers.
