Adidas has decided to expand a pilot project encouraging workers in factories of some of its Asian suppliers to share grievances directly with the company via text messages. Workers can send an SMS text message if they are concerned that their labor rights are being compromised. The system was first launched at one of Adidas' footwear suppliers in Indonesia in the second half of 2012, and it will now be rolled out to four other plants in Indonesia and one in Vietnam this year. In the first months of operations, workers shared complaints on such issues as working hours, insurance and staff reductions. They also used the system to ask questions and make suggestions to their management. The German sportswear giant said that the pilot project, which was inspired by the Better Work initiative of the International Labor Organization, has been positively received by both workers and factory management. Additional information on the initiative is available on the Adidas Group Corporate Blog, as well as in the company's 2012 Sustainability Progress Report.
