Adidas has filed an opposition to J.Crew's trademark application for a design of five parallel stripes, to be used on apparel and on such accessories as business card cases and various kinds of bags. The Trial and Appeals Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has suspended the application for 60 days while Adidas and J.Crew try to negotiate a settlement. As we have already reported, a similar dispute involving Adidas was settled earlier this month. In that case, Adidas' lawsuit against Skechers – over the stripes on the latter's Goldie-Peaks shoe – was dismissed without prejudice on July 29 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.
