Adidas is reportedly considering putting a deposit on sports shoes – as in Germany's “Pfandsystem” (Pfand means “deposit”) – similar to what is often done with plastic and glass bottles. According to reports in sportstextiles.com, the brand is exploring charging a returnable deposit of €10 on a pair of shoes as a way to persuade customers to return them when they have finished using them. This would enable the company to recycle the materials into new products.
