Adidas kicked off its campaign for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing with a dazzling show at the Yongdingmen Gate. It revealed the campaign’s pay-off, «Together in 2008, Impossible is Nothing,» which is meant to underline the joint efforts made by the official sportswear partner of the Games and the Chinese people to organize next year’s sports extravaganza. It will be the largest campaign ever organized by Adidas in China, featuring Chinese athletes such as the diver Hu Jia, the basketball player Sui Feifei and the football star Zheng Zhi. Adidas has forked out an estimated $80 million for the right to be associated so tightly with the Games, in the hope of catching up with Nike on the sprawling Chinese market. This price includes the value of about 2 million pieces of three-striped apparel and footwear that will be made for the occasion.
