Adidas is stepping up to help athletes navigate high-pressure moments in sports. The company has teamed up with sports neuroscientists at Neuro11 to understand how pressure affects players of football, basketball and golf during critical moments like penalty shootouts, clutch putts and must-make free throws.

Adidas athletes Emiliano Martínez, Ludvig Åberg, Nneka Oqwumike, Rose Xhang and Stina Blackstenius have contributed to Neuro11’s efforts to identify and analyze pressure peaks, aiming to provide athletes worldwide with a deeper understanding.

The study reveals that grassroots athletes and elite athletes experience similar intense levels of pressure in major sporting moments but that elite athletes are up to 40 percent better at handling it. As a result, a toolbox of techniques has been developed, based on the findings, to help next-gen athletes manage and conquer pressure in their game.
