After having been hosted for 18 consecutive years by the ski town of Aspen, Colorado (USA), the Winter X Games will be held for the first time in Calgary, Alberta (Canada), in the years 2020 to 2022, subject to securing corporate sponsorship. The city, situated on the prairies about an hour's drive east of the Canadian Rockies, will invest $1.8 million per year for three years through Tourism Calgary to support the Winter X Games. The plan is to revamp the famous Calgary Stampede stadium for the event. The grandstand would be transformed into a 14-story jump for the competition, and a rendering by Manifesto Sports Management also features a new, built-in stage for musical performances. According to the city council, the Winter X Games would create up to 540 jobs and bring 75,000 spectators into the city. Calgary's mayor, Naheed Nenshi, said the city expects $75 million per year in additional economic activity.
