AL&SA (Anthony L&S Athletics), in partnership with Samsung North America, has announced a new agreement with Symphony Holdings that grants AL&SA an exclusive perpetual license for Pony in North America. Pony was founded in Manhattan in 1972 by Uruguay-born entrepreneur Roberto Muller. After repeated changes of ownership in the last decades, the 40-year-old footwear brand, which was endorsed by sports legends such as Muhammad Ali and Pelé, was acquired in 2006 by Symphony Holdings, a Hong Kong-based investment firm. The new agreement is expected to help Pony USA expand its product and retail offerings, marketing strategies and e-commerce, and to accelerate the renewed focus on its brand architecture, concentrating on the Product of New York messaging, the company said. Pony USA plans to open its first retail store in New York City by autumn 2015.
