Alpargatas is wrapping up the sale of its textile plant in Catamarca, the group's final asset in that province of Argentina. The plant currently has a staff of 90. The move follows a country-wide reduction in activity for the Brazilian footwear group. Last year, it closed plants in Chaco and La Pampa as well as a different plant in Catamarca, cutting a workforce of about 3,700 by more than two-thirds. Alpargatas sold 22.5 percent of its shares last year to the Sforza group of Brazil, which in 2015 also purchased 100 percent of the Topper and Rainha brands in Brazil and 20 percent of Topper in Argentina. Sforza's apparent strategy is to focus on the Tucamán province of Argentina and the Topper, Havaianas and Mizuno brands. According to BAE Negocios, an Argentine business paper, the buyer in this latest deal is Fibran Sur, a family-owned textile company based in Buenos Aires.
