Alpargatas, the big Brazilian shoe company that owns the Havaianas and Topper brands, is considering acquisitions abroad, according to the Bloomberg news agency. It also intends to expand into new markets in Asia and to boost its distribution operations in other countries such as the U.K. and the U.S. While its main competitor, Vulcabras, has slashed its own workforce strongly, Alpargatas plans to raise its staff by 13 percent in 2012.
