Alpargatas, the Brazilian company that acquired the rights to the brand Topper when it bought Alpargatas Argentina last year for $84 million, wants to grow the label into a R$2 billion (€1bn-$1.1bn) business by taking the brand beyond football to all sports. Key to the strategy will be growing Topper’s business in Brazil, which is preparing to host the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games. The Topper brand currently has a reported 7 percent share of the Brazilian athletic shoe market and 32 percent share in neighboring Argentina.
