Alpargatas, the Brazilian owner of such brands as Havaianas, Osklen and Dupé, is selling its Argentinian subsidiaries for the equivalent of about €3.3 million. The deal follows an agreement that the Brazilian footwear manufacturer reached in September 2018 to sell 22.5 percent of the businesses behind its Topper brand, both in Argentina and elsewhere. Once the assets are transferred to their respective buyers by Oct. 1, Alpargatas Argentina will no longer do business in apparel. However, the company will be keeping its facilities in the city of Tucumán, whose footwear factory will remain active. Alpargatas' operations in Argentina have been suffering from the country's protracted economic crisis.
