Apple is giving a new impetus at the wearable technology sector with the launch of the iPhone 6 and of the Apple Watch. The new iPhone will incorporate a dedicated health app that uses sensors to track steps and calories burned, adjusting the count based on elevation. On top of its communication features, the Apple Watch will track calories burnt and the speed, distance and duration of a workout. Due to be launched in the U.S. next year at a retail price of $349, it will also measure the heart beat. Nike has already shelved its FuelBand technology, indicating that it will be available in the Apple Watch. Tim Cook, chief executive of Apple, sits on Nike's board of directors.
