As of 2020, Nike will be Major League Baseball's exclusive supplier of on-field uniforms – baselayers, game-day outerwear and training apparel included – and will be stamping them with its Swoosh. Fanatics, the California- and Florida-based producer of licensed sports apparel, will handle the manufacturing and distribution at retail. The Sports Business Journal had already reported on the negotiations for the deal last May. Majestic, which Fanatics acquired from VF Corp. last year, has been supplying the league's uniforms since 2005 and is now reaching the end of its deal. Under Armour acquired the rights briefly in 2016, but the company's slowing growth put the cost of the contract out of reach. In backing out, Under Armour has saved itself $50 million, according to the Sports Business Journal. In addition to its current official sponsorship of the league, Nike will be partnering with all the 30 clubs that belong to MLB, promoting itself through all of the league's channels including the MLB Network, MLB.com and MLB Social. Nike's baseball connections do not end there, however, as the company also has standing endorsements with more than 500 major- and minor-league players.
