Ashworth reports a net loss of $2,533,000 for its 2nd quarter, ended Apr. 30, as compared to a net gain of $4,675,000 in the same period a year ago, on a 9.3 percent drop in revenues to $59.9 million. The gross margin fell by 6.5 percentage points to 38.8 percent, mainly due to costs stemming from slower production at the American company’s embroidery and distribution center. The facility saw less action because of lower domestic golf sales. Total sales in the USA decreased by 16 percent to $37.4 million, while the operating loss for the region totaled $852,000, compared with a profit of $5,236,000. Net turnover for Ashworth UK slid by 2 percent to $8.5 million and operating earnings plummeted by 70 percent to $430,000. All other sales outside of the USA were off by 6 percent to $4.2 million, and operating income declined by 9 percent to $1,177,000.
