Asics engaged its own team of 30 women in last Sunday's Schneider Electric Marathon of Paris, after coaching them for four months. Meanwhile, the Japanese brand is recruiting 15 amateur runners from all over the world to participate in its annual “Beat the Sun” relay running race around the Mont Blanc on June 21: six from Europe (one each from the U.K., Austria, Germany, France, Italy and Spain) and three each from the U.S., Africa and Asia-Pacific. Each amateur will be relayed by a pro runner. There will be two teams from Europe and three others from the three other continents. The five continental teams will compete against each other to beat the sun in the longest day of the year - spending a maximum of 15 hours, 41 minutes and 35 seconds to cover 148 kilometers. They will face 8,370 meters of difficult ascent, the equivalent of climbing Mount Everest.
