Asics has taken a stake in Pyrates Smart Fabrics, a Spanish textile developer, through its subsidiary Asics Ventures Corp. The Spanish start-up, founded by Regina Polanco in 2014, has developed a range of eco-friendly knit fabrics that can be used in sportswear, athleisure, underwear and prêt-à-porter. The textiles are made from either vegetable, upcycled or biodegradable fibers. Some of the textiles are certified by Oeko-Tex. Asics plans to launch a capsule collection made from Pyrates fabrics early next year.
