John Mollanger will join Asics Corporation on Nov. 16 to run a newly established global product marketing division at the company's head office in Kobe, Japan. Reporting directly to Motoi Oyama, president and chief executive of the company, he will act as managing executive officer and general manager of the division. He will also serve as chief creative officer.
His mission will be to clarify and develop Asics' global product leadership in order to accelerate and refine product innovation, design, development and merchandising. The 42-year-old official held product and merchandising functions at Nike in France and the U.S. between 1993 and 2002. He then had business management, product and creative roles at Puma in the U.S. and Germany. After leaving Puma in 2008, he founded a premium motorsports brand, Vitesse, and a strategic consulting office, Vox Fabrica.
Separately, Asics has promoted Giovani (sic) Decker to become the first Brazilian president of Asics Brasil. He takes the place of Osamu Sasada, a 39-year veteran of the group, who will return to its global headquarter in Japan.
Decker has been the general manager and vice president of Asics Brazil since 2010. He was associated with the brand when it was distributed in Brazil by Azaleia. Asics set up its Brazilian subsidiary in 2006. As outlined in our recently released Brazilian sporting goods market report, Asics has enjoyed stellar growth in the country over the past two years. It grew by more than 40 percent in the last one.
