Athletes sponsored by Nike ended up as the three top finishers among both men and women in the 121st edition of the Boston Marathon, which is sponsored by Adidas. They were followed by two men sponsored by Asics and Nike and by two women sponsored by Brooks and Adidas. Ahead of the Marathon, which took place on Apr. 17, Adidas announced a new partnership with Kathrine Switzer and 261 Fearless, the global social running community founded by her. Switzer was the first woman to run the Marathon as a registered number, in 1967, before becoming a campaigner for women's rights. Fifty years later, she ran the Marathon again, joined by 125 members of the 261 Fearless team, described as a supportive community that includes running clubs around the globe aimed to unite and empower women through running, educational opportunities and other events.
