Recco, the Swedish rescue technology company, reports that Austria is the first country in the world to fully cover its entire territory with its RECCO SAR detectors. Searches will be carried out jointly by the Austrian Air Police (BMI) and the Austrian Mountain Rescue Service (ÖBRD). The detectors are placed in four main strategic Air Police bases (Hohenems, Innsbruck, Linz and Graz) for nationwide deployment. Avalanches claim many victims in the Austrian Alps, especially among off-piste skiers.
