Bauer Performance Sports (BPS) has hired Rich Wuerthele to serve as executive vice president of hockey, a new position. Wuerthele comes with more than 20 years of experience in sales, marketing and operations, with a proven track record of growing businesses and achieving results, most recently as president of the tools business segment for Newell Rubbermaid. Prior to his 11-year career with that company, he held other top executive roles at the Black & Decker Corporation and Danaher. Upon announcing the appointment of Wuerthele, BPS' management said that although the company's portfolio of brands and sports continues to expand, its hockey business remains the core of its high-performance platform. Bauer Hockey, the brand worn by National Hockey League (NHL) players, claims to have grown its global market share from around 28 percent in 2006 to 53 percent in 2013, while BPS has expanded its presence in other sports, including lacrosse, baseball, softball and soccer.
