Berghaus has decided to set up its own subsidiary for the German market, effective Jan 1. A management for these new operations is yet to be announced, but it is clear that Berghaus will take over the field sales staff from its current sales agency, Brandconnection. The latter will concentrate on the other brands that it represents in the country, including Boxfresh, a British fashion brand, for the German-speaking countries, and Kjus for the northern regions of Germany. The new German-based subsidiary will also oversee operations in Austria and Switzerland. In the alpine countries the current distributors are said to remain in place, but will report to the new entity in the neighboring country. For the Nordic countries, meanwhile, Berghaus has teamed up with Norway’s Bertel O. Steen (BoS) to launch a new company, Berghaus Nordic AS, whose office will be located in the Oslo region effective January 2011. BoS controls the Faun Sports Group and the Viking brand of footwear (more in The Outdoor Industry Compass).
