Bernard Tapie, formerly the president of the French football club Olympic Marseille, has confirmed his interest in the acquisition of some of the newspapers of the group Hersant Média in the south of France, including La Provence, Nice-Matin and Corse-Matin. With accumulated debts reaching €200 million, the media group is allegedly seeking solutions that would satisfy both the court and the banks. Tapie, who made a fortune by winning a court case over his previous ownership of Adidas, denied that an eventual move on his part in the media business could lead to him to attempt to return to politics as the mayor of Marseille.
