Sales in Brunswick Corporation’s fitness segment came out to be 2.2 percent less than the year before at $639.5 million, including $309 million in sales outside its home U.S. market.. Operating earnings for the segment fell by 12.6 percent to $52.2 million, ands the operating margin dropped by 0.9 percentage points to 8.2 percent.
Brunswick undertook a restructuring in 2008, spending $3.3 million to reduce the workforce by 3 percent in its fitness division and write down non-strategic assets. It also lowered capital expenditures by 62 percent to $4.5 million.
Brunswick’s fitness division consists of the brands Life Fitness, Elevation, Flex Deck, Hammer Strength, Lifecycle and Parabody.
