Callaway Golf Company finalized its purchase of uPlay on Dec. 31. UPlay, based in Carlsbad, Calif., develops and markets consumer electronics. Last year it launched the uPro, a distance-measuring device that combines aerial and satellite photography with GPS technology to accurately locate golf course hazards, distance, and the layout of each hole. The terms of the purchase were not released. Callaway says that the transaction is not expected to affect its 2009 results. In addition, Callaway has signed Stuart Appleby, the eight-time winner of PGA Tour events, to a multi-year contract. He will endorse Callaway equipment and balls and carry a Callaway Golf bag, and his headwear will feature the company’s logo.
