Callaway Golf, which has been suffering continued sales declines and losses in recent times, has a new president and chief executive to spearhead its expected turnaround. The company's board of directors picked Oliver “Chip” Brewer, 48, to take on the role from March 5 onward after reviewing more than 50 candidates for the post. Brewer has a low-single-digit handicap and has run and turned around Adams Golf since he became its president and CEO in 2002, after four years with that company. At Callaway, Brewer will take the place of Tony Thornley, a 64-year-old director of the company who has served as interim president and CEO since the sudden resignation of George Fellows in June 2011 for personal reasons at the age of 68. Brewer, who is said to have great sales and marketing skills, is expected to join Thornley on Callaway's board of directors. Barney Adams, founder and chairman of Adams Golf, is taking over Brewer's position at this company on an interim basis.
