Carsten Schmitz has been appointed as chief digital officer at Intersport Germany, a newly-created job, which is meant to transform the buying group into a digitally savvy business. This involves the continuation of the group's digitalization strategy, the development of its multi-channel model and the development of new digital services in the area of process management. Schmitz is reporting directly to Kim Roether, chief executive of Intersport Germany. He joins from the Rewe Group, a German diversified retail and tourism co-operative group, where he was in charge of omni-channel development. He previously managed the development of the online business at Lidl, the German discount retailer. Schmitz said in a statement that Intersport was a strong and credible brand, which could take advantage of digital technology to fully explore its potential, to simplify its processes and to use the data at its disposal smartly, to the benefit of all parties.
