Jens Fischer, the long-time joint managing director of Sport 2000 Germany, is about to quit his post, effective June 30, and his successor has yet to be announced. A former chief controller of the former Nord-West-Ring shoe buying group, he became joint managing director of its Sport 2000 subsidiary in 1997, first along with Klaus Jost, now president of Intersport Germany and Intersport International, and later together with Wolfgang Schnellbügel, today chief of Sport 2000 International, and most recently with Andreas Rudolf, the current chief of purchasing, marketing and sales at Sport 2000 Germany.

Fischer will leave Sport 2000 to take on the role of managing director of Buchhändler-Abrechnungs-Gesellschaft. (BAG), a buying group for book retailers acquired last May 21 by the Ariston-Nord-West-Ring (ANWR) group. The former Nord-West-Ring became ANWR several years ago after its merger with another cooperative. ANWR is also taking over the Garant group, as recently reported.

During the 12 years of Fischer’s management, the turnover of Sport 2000 Germany in terms of centralized invoicing increased from €297 million to €612 million. The number of affiliated retailers went up by 182 to a total of 793.
