China's rising interest in surfing was on display at the International Surfing Association's second ISA China Cup, held in Wanning, Hainan, in the last week of January. The event was attended by eight national teams with 48 surfers, to compete for individual and team gold medals. About 1,000 spectators watched Australia win its second consecutive team gold medal in the ISA China Cup, while Brazil's Michael Rodrigues won the men's event and Australia's Philippa Anderson took gold in the women's final.
