Claire Jenkins has resigned as a member of Sports Direct's board of directors with immediate effect. The former manager of Rexam had been appointed as non-executive director six years ago. She was the only female director on the board. Her departure, for which no formal explanations were given, comes after shareholders tried twice to oust the company's chairman, Keith Hellawell, but were overruled by the majority shareholder, Mike Ashley, who became the chief executive after the resignation of David Forsey. With Jenkins gone, only three independent directors are left on SDI's board. The company still has no chief financial officer.
