CLARIFICATION: The article in the last issue on Zoggs’ new distribution set-up in Germany and Austria was not quite accurate. The actual sales structure is quite interesting and based on an original business model. Filser Sport & Marketing remains the brand’s distributor in the region, supplying retailers directly from stock, but the man who was in charge of selling the brand, Mathias Angele, is now an employee of Zoggs, reporting to its head office in the U.K., although the sales agents are paid by Filser. In turn, Filser has assigned one of its employees, Anton Heisele, to take care of product management only for the Zoggs brand alone. Anthony Churchill, who was previously consulting for Zoggs’ owners, is now a consultant to Filser. Both Zoggs and Filser are boosting their investments in marketing to expand the reach of the Zoggs brand from the triathlon segment into the broader swimwear market, among other things by making an interactive swim training program available to customers in German. This is described as the next step in the development of Zoggs, after becoming brand leader in the German triathlon segment. Filser, which markets also Swim4Fitness, specializes in triathlon.
