Collective Brands has bought Above the Rim, an urban basketball brand that was formerly owned by Reebok International. Collective plans to expand the brand both on the domestic market and overseas, and it will be part of the company’s Collective Licensing International division. Other brands in this unit include Airwalk, Vision Street Wear, Sims and Lamar. Above the Rim was started in 1989 as a basketball apparel line, the first one not associated with a basketball shoe. The cost of the transaction was not released.
