In its 2020 sustainability report, Portland-based Columbia Sportswear Company (CSC) reveals details on the success made within its four brands Columbia, Mountain Hardwear, Sorel and Prana in terms of CSR topics and sustainability.

The group responded to the challenges by Covid-19 with a “Catastrophic Paid Leave” in the U.S. and worked with partners in the supply chain to ensure benefits for employees abroad. A new senior-level leadership team for diversity, equity and inclusion was installed that introduced three new employee resource groups. Hours volunteered by CSC employees in the U.S. total more than 2,000, while the company has donated nearly $1.9 million to charity.

In climate protection, CSC has reached a 12 percent absolute year-over-year reduction in Scope 1, 2 and 3 global greenhouse gas emissions and set a long-term climate target of 30 percent reduction in manufacturing emissions by 2030.

Within the product offerings, more than 72 percent of styles across all brands contained at least one sustainable material attribute. As a result of the Prana brand eliminating plastic bags from certain products, 2.6 million polybags bags were averted from the landfill.

84 percent of the CSC manufacturing partners received ratings of B or above, with two rated “Best in Class”. Overall, 315 audits and assessments at manufacturing partners’ facilities of Columbia brands have been conducted in 2020.
