Confirming previous reports, Quechua, the outdoor brand of Décathlon, announced the launch of what it describes as “the first mountainproof smartphone” specifically designed for hikers, hoping to replicate the success of its quick-opening “two-seconds” tent. Company officials declined to share their sales projections, but revealed that Décathlon has already sold between three and four million “two-seconds” tents in various versions since their introduction on the market eight years ago. They pointed out that Décathlon's vertical structure should permit quick replenishment cycles in the case of stronger-than-expected demand (much more on this in The Outdoor Industry Compass).
