Converse will join an economic initiative started by Bono, the lead singer of U2, and Bobby Shriver with the launch of a new line of Chuck Taylor shoes. Named Converse RED, the collection, made of mudcloth, will be available in March in neon orange, yellow or pink. It has been designed by a Giles Deacon, a British designer, taking his inspiration from Nakunte Diarra, a mudcloth artist and story-teller from Mali. A percentage of sales from the Converse RED collection will go to an organization created by Bono and Shriver that seeks to raise private funds to combat AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
