In 2006, Burton Snowboards bought Channel Islands, a brand of surfboards, from Al Merrick, a shaper who founded it 51 years ago in Santa Barbara, California. Burton has now agreed to sell CI Surfboards to the founder’s son, Britt Merrick, along with members of its management and athletes. According to Stab magazine, the price has been set at around $6 million. The general manager of CI Surfboards, Scott Anderson, will continue to run it. The company, which is reportedly enjoying a strong year because Covid-19 has boosted surfing participation, is retaining all its staff and current distribution agreements.
