Decathlon plans to be sourcing $3 billion in goods from India by 2030, India’s Economic Times and others report. Indian production is to serve both domestic and international markets and will center on categories with great potential, such as footwear, fitness and technical textiles.
India has been a source for Decathlon for a quarter-century and accounts for about 8 percent of the products the company sells worldwide. It hopes to increase that to 15 percent. India produces 70 percent of the goods Decathlon sells within the country. That percentage is to increase to 90.
Decathlon has 113 factories in the country, along with 83 suppliers, seven production offices and a Design Centre. It also has 132 stores in 55 cities. The company announced last year that it would be investing €100 million in India.
“India has evolved into a cornerstone of Decathlon’s global production ecosystem – not just in terms of scale, but in its ability to deliver quality, innovation, and speed,” said Frédéric Merlevede, Decathlon’s Production Director, quoted in the Economic Times.
