Eligible WTA players will, for the first time, receive paid maternity leave for up to 12 months.

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), its global partner, have announced the introduction of the PIF WTA Maternity Fund Program. Through this pioneering initiative, WTA players will for the first time receive paid maternity leave for up to 12 months. In addition, they will have access to grants for fertility treatments and other benefits.

The PIF WTA Maternity Fund Program is the only maternity program in women’s sport to be fully funded and supported by an external partner. This comprehensive initiative is meant to provide women tennis players with the support and flexibility to pursue professional careers and build families.

From launch, the PIF WTA Maternity Fund Program will offer benefits to more than 320 eligible WTA players, the organizations say in a statement.
