Dahon, the leading brand of folding bicycles based in the U.S., has established Dahon Europe in Cologne. The subsidiary will be run by the managing director Hans-Joachim Retzlaff, who has been in the bicycle industry for many years. He started in 1997 as marketing manager at Cycleurope and since 2003 he has been at ZEG, the German buying group for bicycle retailers. He built up the Veloland group in France for ZEG and returned to Germany last year to handle the global export operations of the German group’s Bulls brand. Retzlaff said the opening of Dahon’s European office was meant to provide support to importers and would not entail changes in European distribution.
