David Beckham has agreed to become the first global ambassador for Chinese football. Under a deal with the Chinese Football Association, the charismatic former captain of the England team will visit China throughout the year to promote the sport domestically and globally, as he did in a way in the U.S. when he joined the LA Galaxy team. He will also seek to popularize the country's national football competition, the Chinese Super League, as it tries to recover from a recent match-fixing scandal. The CSL is working together with IMG, which has similar aims through its partnership with the Chinese state television network, CCTV. The international 37-year-old celebrity is currently under contract with the Paris Saint-Germain team. He has also played in the past with the Manchester United and Real Madrid teams.
