Decathlon has confirmed its selection of the Bay Area for its first major brick-and-mortar store in the U.S. There will be a three-day grand opening starting on Friday, April 12, at 3938 Horton Street in the East Bay Bridge shopping center in Emeryville, just outside Oakland, California. At 47,000 square feet (4,366 square meters), this store is six times larger than the “lab store” that Decathlon opened across the Bay in San Francisco in April of last year – a pop-up at 735 Market Street that was meant to gauge the market and refine the company's mixture of standard retail and e-commerce. The Emeryville store, which occupies the premises of a former Toys “R” Us, will allow customers to test products before they buy. It will also make use of RFID and cashless checkouts.
