Décathlon has opened the largest sporting goods store in Russia, and aside for some initial delivery problems it’s selling well in spite of a lack of any major marketing campaign. With a staff of 150 people, the mega-store is located on the ring road of Moscow, in the suburb of Altufievo, near a hypermarket of Auchan and a mega-store of Leroy Merlin, which belong to the same group. The second Russian Décathlon store is expected to open before the end of 2006 on the Northeastern side of Moscow along its ring road, again not far from an Auchan store. Further expansion will largely depend on the sales results.
