Décathlon is about to make a new effort on the German market, which has never been easy to conquer for the French chain. After improving its profitability and performance on the market, it will open its tenth German store in Rostock, on the Baltic Sea coast. The store will reportedly have a surface of 4,000 square meters. Décathlon has never managed to be as successful in Germany as it is in other countries such as France, Spain and Italy. Reasons for this have been the still very brand-driven attitude of local consumers as well as the continued tendency of German consumers to go downtown for shopping. Another obstacle has been the real estate situation in Germany where Décathlon has some difficulties to set up its large surfaces.
