Decathlon is certainly going strong in Germany, where the number of its stores had reached a total of 70 prior to the opening of its third and biggest one in Munich on Aug. 8, the sixth one to have been opened in the country since the beginning of this year. At the end of this month, the chain will also open a third store in Leipzig, a city where the demand for the banner came out to be particularly high in a recent survey. Located near the Olympia shopping center, the new Munich store covers 5,100 square meters and employs 80 people. The new store in Leipzig will start on a surface of 1,500 m², taking the place of Zara in the Nova Eventis shopping mall. Its surface will grow bigger next spring after taking over the space of a Smyth's Toys superstore. A third store is also reportedly planned for Hamburg next spring. Decathlon is following a strategy of running multiple locations in the same metropolitan area. It already has five stores in Berlin, which are due to be followed by two more in the autumn.
